Privacy Policy

Who we are
Activist Assist is operated by Joshua Lawrence, an individual based in Maryland, USA. Questions: privacy@activistassist.com.
What we collect
- Account info (via our auth provider, Clerk): your email address and, if you provide it, your name.
- Preferences you save: your mailing address (used to look up your elected officials), a signature name, and default writing preferences.
- Letters you save:the subject and body of letters you create, and the inputs used to generate them (cause, audience, tone, length, and your “ask”).
- Delivery records:when you mark a letter as sent, we record the recipient's name/role and the channel and contact value you used.
- Technical data: your IP address, used transiently for rate-limiting and bot protection, plus basic, cookieless usage analytics.
What we DON'T store
The personal “why this matters to you” note and the signer name used for a given draft are processed only in memory to generate your letter — they are not saved to our database.
How we use your information
To provide the service (generate, save, and help you deliver letters), to look up officials for your address, to prevent abuse, and to understand aggregate usage.
Who we share it with (service providers)
OpenAI (via Microsoft Azure OpenAI) receives your generation inputs and the transient note/signer name to produce your draft; Clerk (authentication); Neon (database hosting); Upstash (rate limiting — receives your IP and request counts); Cloudflare Turnstile (bot protection for anonymous users — receives a bot-check token and IP); Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics). We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies required for sign-in and security (set by our auth provider). Our analytics are cookieless.
Data retention
We keep your account data and saved letters until you delete them or delete your account.
Your rights & choices
You can view and export your data, edit or delete individual letters, and delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings, or by emailing privacy@activistassist.com. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR or California under the CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data; email us to exercise them.
Children
Activist Assist is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU).
Changes
We may update this policy; we'll revise the effective date above.
